CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - It’s National Veggie Burger Day! With us to celebrate is Pierre Bloomfield, Ace No. 3′s general manager.

He stopped by to show us how to make the classic ace burger with a plant patty. It features American cheese, caramelized onions, house made pickles, zesty comeback sauce and a brioche bun.

Want to make it vegan? Use vegan cheese and a keto bun or lettuce wrap.

Here’s the recipe so you can make it yourself:

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup cooked + cooled brown rice
  • 1 ⅓ cup rinsed, mashed red beans
  • ⅓ cup yellow diced onion
  • ½ cup shredded carrots
  • ¼ can pimientos
  • ½ tbsp chili powder
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tbsp chickpea miso
  • ½ tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 1 tbsp ground sunflower seeds

Directions:

  • Add oil to a large pot and sauté onions, carrots, and pimientos until softened
  • Add the chickpea miso and mix well until fully incorporated
  • Turn off heat
  • Add spices and mix well
  • Spread mixture on a sheet tray to cool
  • Once cooled, transfer rice, beans, and veggie mix to a bowl and add in ground flax and sunflower seeds
  • Mix well
  • Use mixture to make four 5oz patties by hand
  • Grilled, sauté, or deep fry to cook through
  • Dress with your favorite toppings in a brioche bun
