CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - This Memorial Day weekend, we’re taking you on a QC Life Road Trip by helping you prepare for your ultimate holiday road trip.
ROAD TRIP CHECK LIST
Obviously, you pack your clothes, toiletries, medicines, etc., but there’s a good chance there are plenty of things you haven’t thought about. International Travel Writer Krisha Chachra is based here in Charlotte and hosts SouthPark Magazine’s podcast “SouthPark Says with Krisha Chachra”. Here’s her list of “Five Things You Can’t Forget to Pack on a Road Trip:”
- Portable Chargers – Make sure you bring extra batteries for your cell on those long, scenic hikes or outdoor adventures. You don’t want to be stranded without service in case of an emergency.
- Long-range camera lenses – If you have one, pack it! You may spot some exotic wildlife on your road trip or something in nature that you’ll want to capture. Cell phone cameras often don’t cut it with distance or details.
- Journal – With wide-open spaces and room to think, you might want to record your thoughts and observations in the moment. Voice text ideas if you’re driving but when you stop for the night make sure you put pen to paper so you can reflect on your adventure for years to come.
- Paper road maps – yes, they still print these. You can get them from AAA or order online – Rand McNally publishes detailed maps. You may not think you need one with a cell phone but in remote locations or national parks you could lose service…but you don’t want to lose your way.
- Emergency Supplies – make sure you have a first-aid kit, gallon of water and jumper cables in your car. Emergencies could happen in the middle of nowhere. Pack essential survival equipment to take care of yourself while you’re waiting on help.
Krisha’s work has appeared on NPR, PBS, USA TODAY and several national and regional magazines. You can listen to her podcast, SouthPark Says with Krisha Chachra, wherever you download your podcasts or at southparkmagazine.com/southpark-says/
