In her third cocktail book “Spooky Cocktails,” McLafferty shares over 100 spirited and wickedly delicious drinks, including a whole section devoted to “boo”ze-free drinks that stand strong on their own flavor profiles. She’s sharing two recipes with us below that showcase vibrant colors and complementary flavors perfect for Halloween celebrations. “Spooky Cocktails” is available now at all major book retail outlets.

Blood Orange Cooler
A refresher that showcases the vibrant color of this citrus and adds in a few complementary flavors to make it shine.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz blood orange juice
- 1 oz grenadine
- 3 drops vanilla extract
- 2 dashes aromatic bitters
- Blood orange wheel and rosemary sprig, for garnish
Instructions:Shake blood orange juice, grenadine, vanilla extract and aromatic bitters well with ice. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with blood orange wheel and rosemary sprig.

Nightmare Tonic
Ingredients:
- 2 blackberries
- 3 oz pomegranate juice
- 1 oz unsweetened tart cherry juice
- 1 oz maple syrup
- 2 drops black food coloring
- Lemon or lime soda water, to top
- 2 maraschino cherries on a pick and edible glitter, for garnish
Instructions:Muddle blackberries well in a shaker. Add pomegranate juice, cherry juice, maple syrup and food coloring and shake well with ice. Strain into a chilled Collins glass and fill with ice. Top with soda water and garnish with cherries and edible glitter.
