Alicia’s Kitchen: a taste of Peru in Charlotte

Alicia’s Kitchen: A Taste of Peru in Charlotte Discover authentic Peruvian dishes, culture, music and dance at Alicia’s Kitchen.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - QC Life’s Jorge Andres spent the afternoon at Alicia’s Kitchen on South Boulevard with Rodrigo Giraldo, exploring authentic Peruvian food and culture.

Alicia’s Kitchen celebrates a wide range of Peruvian traditions—from indigenous dishes to Chinese-Peruvian and Japanese-Peruvian flavors.

One standout is ceviche: fresh fish chilled and “cooked” in citrus, brightened with onions and aji, and served with traditional Peruvian corn (choclo), sweet potatoes, and lettuce. It’s a refreshing, flavorful dish with layered textures and a touch of spice.

We also explored the beauty of Peruvian music with Maria Portillo of Fuzion Latina Mix, a band that has brought Peruvian rhythms to Charlotte for more than 20 years.

And because music and dance go hand in hand, we spoke with Mauricio Salas of Peru Expresion Dance Company, who shared the elegance and meaning behind traditional Peruvian dance.
