Cozy up with mulled wine and cider

Cozy up with mulled wine and cider Chef Alicia Charolle of Copper & Thyme shares easy tips for serving cozy mulled wine and fresh apple cider at holiday gatherings.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QC Life) - Chef Alicia Charolle, owner and executive chef of Charlotte-based Copper & Thyme, shares how mulled wine and cider can make fall and holiday gatherings feel extra inviting without keeping the host stuck in the kitchen. Simmering spices fill the home with a cozy aroma, and both drinks can be prepared ahead for easy serving.

Mulled wine has roots dating back to the Romans, who warmed wine with spices to preserve it and add flavor. Chef Alicia recommends choosing a wine you already enjoy, from a sweet California red to a dry French or Italian wine; Cabernet or Bordeaux are also great options, and boxed wine works well for serving a crowd.

For a family-friendly, nonalcoholic option, try fresh apple cider. It brings the same warm, spiced flavors and, unlike apple juice, has a fuller, less-sweet taste - especially fitting during apple season.
