NC’s first craft rum distillery gets new home Muddy River Distillery just opened its doors to its new location at the old Mount Holly Cotton Mill.

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. (QC Life) - Muddy River Distillery just opened its doors to a new location.

Founded in 2011 by owners Robbie and Caroline Delaney, Muddy River Distillery is the Carolinas first legal rum distillery, offering a variety of rum products.

The distillery’s new home is located at the old Mount Holly Cotton Mill, which was built in 1875.

The Delaneys purchased the mill in 2022 and since then have been working to renovate the space to turn it into what it is now: a cocktail bar, event space, full distillery production area and more.

Co-owner Robbie Delaney and Jessie Hearn, the bar manager, joined our show to to talk about the new space and to show a drink favorite made out of the distillery’s rum: the PiñaKiller cocktail, a play on piña coladas and the painkiller cocktail.
